Project Description
KRISTIAN LEVER
CREATIVE DIRECTOR & CREATIVE CHOREOGRAPHER
ABOUT
Kristian is a British-Finnish choreographer, creative director, and filmmaker known for his cinematic approach to storytelling, seamlessly blending classical technique, contemporary movement, and theatrical narrative. Trained at the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow and a former member of Hamburg Ballet, Lever draws upon a rigorous classical foundation while continually pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance. Over the course of his career, he has developed a distinctive artistic language that bridges ballet, modern movement, theatre, and film, establishing himself as one of the most innovative creative voices working internationally today.
Lever began choreographing at the age of 22, receiving his first commission from the National Youth Ballet of Germany. Since then, he has created more than 40 original works for leading dance companies and opera houses across Europe and North America, including the Royal Danish Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, and Finnish National Ballet, whose work was presented in collaboration with The Royal Ballet at Covent Garden. His achievements have been recognized with major industry honours, including the Erik Bruhn Prize for Best Choreography, awarded by the National Ballet of Canada, and Germany’s TANZ Promising Young Talent Award.
With commercial brands increasingly seeking deeper emotional engagement and more meaningful audience experiences, Lever’s unique fusion of movement, cinematic storytelling, and theatrical craft has become highly sought after within the commercial and experiential sectors. His ability to translate artistic excellence into compelling live experiences has led to collaborations with leading global brands, luxury houses, and creative agencies looking to elevate their platforms through authentic, culturally resonant storytelling. Whether creating large-scale live events, immersive experiences, brand activations, or performance-driven campaigns, Lever brings a level of artistic sophistication rarely found within the commercial landscape.
Alongside his work in live performance and creative direction, Lever has established himself as an accomplished film director. His films have screened at Oscar- and BAFTA-qualifying festivals, including Tribeca, while his commercial directing work has received international acclaim, earning the Musicbed Award for Best Advertisement alongside campaigns for global brands such as Amazon Prime and Nike. His cinematic eye, combined with his expertise in movement and narrative, enables him to create visually arresting work that resonates across both artistic and commercial audiences.
A passionate collaborator within the music industry he works closely with both established and emerging artists to develop distinctive visual worlds for live performances and videos.. Drawn to artists who value originality and emotional connection, he brings a choreographer’s sensitivity to rhythm, atmosphere, and storytelling, helping performers translate their creative vision into unforgettable audience experiences.
Celebrated for both his creative vision and collaborative approach, Lever is known for crafting emotionally resonant and visually striking work that connects contemporary dance, theatre, film, music, and popular culture. He continues to expand the possibilities of movement-led storytelling, producing work that is artistically distinctive, culturally relevant, and internationally recognised.
